A Useful Guide to Installing USB Driver Updates
Nearly every PC user has to apply USB driver updates at some point. In fact, merely upgrading your operating system can cause your existing drivers to become outdated. This then necessitates a process wherein you need to find the updated USB drivers. A motherboard upgrade is especially indicative of the need to update USB drivers. However, even simply an OS update will almost always require new drivers.
How to Make Sure all USB Ports are Working
If you have a desktop computer that has both back entry and front entry USB ports, then an OS upgrade might result in one of these sets of ports not working. For example, the front entry ports will stop working, but the back entry ports will continue to function properly.
You can actually test your USB drivers simply. Just plug your USB flash drive into a port that is functional. You should see a light come on. Then, all you need to do is unplug the USB drive and plug it into the port you are testing. If the light doesn't come, or it comes on, flickers, and then goes off, then that USB port is broken. So, you'll need to repair the drivers associated with this port.
Finding the Device you Need to Fix
You will need to isolate the port drivers so that you know which drivers to update. This can be a bit of a painstaking task, as you have to navigate through all of your USB devices and then you have to locate the correct drivers to apply updates. So, it's a lot better simply to update all of your USB drivers simultaneously. That way you'll be sure to fix the problem.
If you're very tech savvy, you can open up your BIOS and identify the USB ports used by your computer. However, this is a fairly complicated task, and should only be done by people who have significant expertise in dealing with computers. Otherwise, you can try the following:
*Have Windows auto-detect drivers.
*Or, download, install, and run <a href="http://www.pcdriverhelper.com">driver update software</a>.
For the auto-detect method, you must open Device Manager, which is located within the Control Panel. Just click "Start", open "Control Panel", and then type "Device Manager" in the search box. Click the icon that appears.
Scroll all the way to the bottom of the Device Manager, as the USB controllers are usually listed at the bottom of the Device Manager. Just click the + sign or the triangle next to the USB controller icon, and you'll see all of the USB drivers. Then, you'll need to right-click on each driver, open "Properties", and select "Update driver."
When You Don't Have Time to Tinker with the System, Choose Driver Update Software
Alternatively, you can use driver update software to update drivers. Driver update software makes it very easy to update your drivers. All you have to is download and install the software, then click "Scan." The software will scan your system for outdated drivers. It'll then notify you of all outdated drivers, and prompt you to update the drivers with few clicks of the mouse.
This is a convenient and efficient way of applying driver update software. If you're looking to grab <a href="http://www.pcdriverhelper.com">USB driver updates</a>, then go with strong driver update software.

Photo Printers - Which One's Best For You
If you are considering a photo printer to print pictures to frame, scrapbook, or place in a family album, you want a printer that offers lab quality prints.
You can place photo printers into two categories: inkjet and dedicated photo printers.
How Inkjet Photo Printers Work
When a picture is sent to be printed, the paper is fed through the printer. When the paper is positioned, the print head begins to move across the page spraying drops of printer ink onto the paper, to create the image. After each section is completed, the paper is moved forward to continue until the picture is printed.
What is a Dedicated Photo Printer
Dedicated photo printers are just for that--printing photographs. Most of these printers are dye sublimation printers which use thermal dye technology. Thermal dye technology works differently than inkjet technology, melting the dye from a ribbon rather than laying down the colors as individual dots. Since the dye is melted onto the paper, it gives your pictures a more natural appearance.
How Dye Sublimation Printers Work
Dye sublimation printers use a cellophane roll with a section for cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and a clear overcoat. When you send a picture to be printed, the paper and film pass through the heated print heads. The dye vaporizes, saturating the paper’s surface. Once it hits the paper, it returns to its solid form. The print head heats at different temperatures because the hotter the print head the more ink is released. This allows for the many shades of a color to be placed on each other.
Buying Guide
Advantages
- Immediate Pictures
- Vibrant colors (high quality color)
- Ability to print directly from camera or memory card
Disadvantages

- More Expensive (higher end models)
- Slow
Price Range
- $80-500
Features
Speed
Most photo printers are made for printing photos so the manufacturers don’t put much emphasis on speed. The focus of these printers is the color quality of each print.
Paper Size
You might be limited to what size a pictures you can print with dedicated photo printers because most offer a maximum printing size of 4x6. Very few can print 5x7 or panoramas (4x12)
Most photo printers you will find are inkjet printers with six color cartridges (as opposed to the normal four colors). The more colors the printer uses the better quality photos it produces. When purchasing a photo inkjet printer, you should keep in mind that four color inks can print excellent photos.
For printing black and white photos, look for a printer with various options for black ink or offers grey inks. They black and grey ink help produce better shading, making the output quality of black and white photos better.
Connection Ability
Most printers connect to your computer by a USB cable. But photo printers can use PictBridge technology, which allows you to connect your digital camera directly to the printer. Other printers have memory card slots built on the printer but make sure the printer can support the memory card you use.
Added Features
LCD and a front panel menu allow you to view, edit, and print photos without using your computer. Some photo printers might include image editing software.
