Is it possible to power an old internal HDD with USB power from a laptop?

I have a new laptop with a SATA data connector on the side. I am wondering if there is an adapter or cable somewhere which means that I can power an old internal hard drive while using the laptop's SATA port for the data?

I am trying to avoid spending money on an enclosure as I already have a method of connecting with regards to data, just power is a problem. The HDD is rated at 5V (same as USB power??).

no you cant use the SATA port, the problem is your laptops SATA port is a data port not power.
You need to power the old HD first so unless there is a method of power you get no data transfer. To connect the old (laptop?) HD to the new laptop will require an HD enclosure as this has all the power and data connections, I cant say I have ever seen a USB to SATA or IDE power connection cable.
