Firewire camcorder help please !?

Is there any quality loss in transferring DV movies to a decent p.c. with firewire ? Have you heard of anyone having bad results ?
I can't decide whether to sell this camcorder or not - I thought I could use USB, but now I have to buy a IEEE PCI card and cable
Also, is the transfer done at real time like screen/video capture?

The ONLY issues I have dealt with is the brand of firewire expansion card used. I have never met anyone that successfully got a Dynex to work. Belkin and SIIG seem to work pretty consistently. I'm sure there are others that work well, too - I have no experience with them.
