Why My SCSI harddisk wont turn off after the idle period specified in XP power options ?
All my IDE and SATA ports on my motherboard is now full with 5 hard disks and a DVD Writer.
So to connect my new 1TB Seagate SATA HardDisk, I bought a PCI SATA Card VIA VT6421 controller. The computer is on 24/7, but only the main harddisk on which OS installed will be in use. So to save the life of my other harddisks, I usually set the "Turn off Harddisks" option in the Power options of Windows XP to "After 10 mins". All the hardddisks connected to the mother board directly respects this setting and turns off after being idle for 10 mins. But the 1TB harddisk connected to the PCI SATA card alone wont turn of, causing the harddisk to heat up a lot and I am afraid of losing precious data. The driver I am using is built around the viamraid.sys and the version number is :5.1.2600.310
Any help ?
If not here, can someone tell me the best place to post the question and get an answer ?
It is possible that the power management of your 1 TB hard disk is being controlled by the PCI SATA card, and Windows is not able to have direct control over it. So, you may want to look at the manual of PCI SATA card to see how you can get into its utility software to adjust hard disk power management.
