RAID 5 card thats compatible with windows server 2008?
im looking for a SATA raid controller that will be running a RAID 5 array, with a minimum of 4 ports for my server running server 2008. I dont want to go through the hassle of installing drivers to make it compatible with server 08 since this is my first RAID setup so i would rather buy a card that is already compatible with server 08. can anyone point me in the way of a decent card this is already compatible with windows server 2008?
thanks alot!
I always use the onBoard Controller because it is easier, so I don't have a card suggestion per se.
However, RAID 10 is a much better configuration. RAID 5 takes pretty big performance hits. The drives work a lot harder, are more noisy, and will wear out faster.
RAID 10 is mirrored and striped w/ 4 drives minimum. It is often referred to as RAID 1+0, which is slightly different than RAID 01 (0+1).
I would google RAID 10 vs. RAID 5, so you can get more in depth info about if you'd like. Just wanted to pass on some advice that was relevant even though I realize I didn't technically answer your question.
